Winterfeast will be a 10-day food festival, bursting with authentic farm gate to plate experiences in the Bundaberg region, Southern Great Barrier Reef. The iconic rich red soil, clean oceans and near-perfect year-round conditions make it the perfect place for a food lover’s paradise. Anything from off the trawler seafood, quaint cafes, to pick your own strawberries and abundant farm gates which line the region’s roads, seasonal availability is year round with the wealth of produce grown locally.
Some of Australia’s most passionate foodies, iconic cafes and famous food brands call Bundaberg their home, including Bundaberg Sugar, Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, Indulge Café, Grunskes Seafood and Bundaberg Rum. The area produces most of Australia’s sweet potatoes, ginger and snow peas and is on track to becoming the country’s largest macadamia producer.
Winterfeast offers Queensland an opportunity to present this somewhat undiscovered foodie paradise destination in a way that is fresh and new and only available in the Bundaberg region!
How it all started:
It all started with a vision of Amanda Hinds, restaurateur and owner of Indulge Café & Bistro, to have a long lunch in Bourbong Street. This became the Sunday Soiree in 2014. This grew to include the inaugural Farmers Markets held at the Flats, on the day before the Soiree in 2015. With the Bundaberg regions enviable position as a culinary tourism destination, this vision has expanded to become the 10 day Winterfeast Festival for 2016. Amanda has worked closely with what is now known as the Winterfeast Steering Committee, a passionate and energetic team that have created a proposed program of local produce focused event concepts that will become an iconic food & wine festival to showcase the region’s abundant flavours.
